1. "I am afraid to drive to church." This is horrible. Why does someone have to be afraid to even go to the church. It's just a shame that people can't even go to the church without being afraid that they might be thrown out of the country. Dont we call United states a "free" country?

2. I am completely against the situation. Everyone has the right to live the way they want. It is not fair there are people that have lived here almost their entire life and now they hav to leave the country. Yes it did hinder my evaluating the text in an objective way due to the reason that its just not the right thing to do in my opinion.
ReplyDeletefarheen abbasi
3. Actually to be really honest there wasn't anything that I was unfamiliar with. Everything I read in the made sense to me. The reason being is that my best friend is in the same situation. It is very hard to live in this country without paper. You cant work, oyu cant't drive, you can't go to college, you can't travel or an of that sort.

question #1
ReplyDelete" That's why our jobs went south to Mexico," he said. " They pay them less wages and pocket the money, keep us from having jobs. This quote is significant to me beacuse it really doesn't help out the people. Many jobs would rather pay someone less then the minium wage compared to a skilled worker. Many companies now on days don't want to waste more money and still get the same product paying someone less then the usual.I think it's unfair beacuse they are many skilled workers that need jobs to suppost their family but they can;t because they jobs are taking to Mexico.

4. Why is it that just because someone wasn't born in the United States they can't live freely here like the others? What's the big deal?
ReplyDeleteFarheen Abbasi
1. In Alabama, thay're allowing the state and local police to ask for immigration papers during routine traffic stops, rendering most contractts with illegal immigration unenforceable and requiring schools to ascertain the immigration status of children at registration time. This stood out to me for the fact that it is not fair at all. It would be giving to much power to regular cops and it would also just give them a reason to discriminate everyone else who doesn't "fit in". I understand that they are trying to get the economy back up and give jobs to actual citizens but they don't have to go to that extend. To me in a way this brings it back to the Martin Luther King era. The discrimination isn't right.
ReplyDelete2. I don't support the law that was passed. It is no right that after all this time and certain people are completely set up, have a home and everything else and now they have to leave because they dont feel safe. And in a way, yes it did hinder my evaluation of the text in an objective way for the fact that it isn't right.
ReplyDeletequestion #2
ReplyDeleteI disagree with the subject of the text beacuse i don't think it's fair for people to leave everything they have here and go back to their countries. Many kids want to study and build their lives here but they wont be able to accomlish their dreams by taken away.I think everybody should have an equal oppurtunity in this country. Many of those kids can be important people in our future.

1. "Not far from the plant, in the Hispanic neighborhoods, it is hard to differentiate the silence of the workday, the silence of abandonment or the silence of paralyzing fear."
ReplyDeleteThe article does speak about how hispanics are racing out of the state in fear and how they are leaving jobs, but they are also staying home terrified of leaving. Is that what the United States constitution wants people to live by, fear? As one person in the article described she said she felt like a "prisoner". Why would anyone want to feel like a prisoner in a place they call home. They work and try to start a family and make lives better for their children, but yet they live their lives in fear of not being able to support.
Natasha
"This needed to be done years ago," this statement upset me because why target people who flee to this country to support their families. I understand Shannon was out of work for over a year but question now "Will you do the work now thats available? The jobs that were left behind were hard to do. Many of the company are suffering and looking for inmates to do these jobs because no one will be able too. Many companies who employee these hard workers will see the difference the hispanic people made.

1.they left behind mobile homes, sold fully furnished for a thousand dollars or even less,or they just closed up and, in a gesture or optimism, left the keys with a neighbor.Dogs were fed one last time" This is significant to me because it shows how mess up it is to them by leaving everything thats valuable to them.

1."The judge, Sharon Lovelace Blackburn, upheld the parts of the law allowing state and local police to ask for immigration papers during routine traffic stops, rendering most with illegal immigrants unenforceable and requiring schools to ascertain the immigration status of children at registration time."
ReplyDeleteI don’t think is right to stop people randomly if they haven’t violated any law and also having to ask for immigration papers I found it disrespectful.

ReplyDelete3. The entire text was familiar to me because i have friends and also certain family that this relates to. They come from other countries to try to better themselfs and their kids. Even though it is not easy but they still try and if this law was passed around here it would be miserable for them. Going to school wouldn't even be an option any more
ReplyDelete1)"The lady felt like a prisoner". No one should feel like a prisoner but this is how she felt. She didn't want to go out because she was scared that immigration would get her. They would put her in jail and send her back to her country.

#4 why are american citizens constantly antagonizing immigrants that have jobs that citiznes refuse to take?
ReplyDelete- Rosie
question #3
ReplyDeleteWhen i read the text i got the main idea right away.I can realate to the text beacuse i have a freind that is in that situation. Its very hard for them to find jobs, go to school, be in places they want to attend. They allways need to follow the law in order to not get deported or something worse.People without papers need to prove themselves twice as hard as a person with papers and in my eyes i dont think thats fair at all.
Francheska Badia
2.i disagree because its not fair for them, they worked really hard all their life to gain the stuff they have such as stores, houses, pets, etc its not fair that they have live there all their life and now they got to leave the country.
ReplyDeleteLuis C.
4.whats the point of doing this to them?
ReplyDeleteLuis C.
question #4
ReplyDeleteWhy does the law need to treat people without papers so unfair? isn't people supposed to be treated equal in this country?
Francheska Badia
5. One of my classmates has asked why are American citizens constantly discriminizing immigrants that have jobs that citizens refuse to take? The reason behind this is that American citizens are just very annoyed. And it's not all of them, just some ignorant people. They dont understand that if you are good enough for the jobs, you are going to get the job regardless. The jobs that some of these undocumented people have are extremely hard. I dont think that a lot of the citizens will be able to work as hard due to the fact that they have their papers and they are mostly looking for easy job and more money. But the undocumented people are willing to go through anything because they are here to make a good living and work hard.
ReplyDeleteFarheen abbasi
2. After reading the title of the article and reading the first sentance I knew exactly where this article was going. I am completely against the immigration law Alabama has passed. I have always know I am against deporting immigrants from the country. I believe that if someone is rehabilitating their lives from the way they lived in their country why not let them. Its the countrys own fault that we have such a high number of immigrants. These people want to work and will do what it takes to make their lives better, but the Country is denying them that freedom. Its suppose to be "Land of the Free" but its more like "Home of the Brave" "Home of the Living in Fear". Living in fear everyday knowing that from one day to another your entire family and life can be ripped out of your hands. If the United States has such a hate for immigrants because they are losing jobs, then why not give those people papers and then no one can say a word.
ReplyDeleteNatasha
3. There was absolutely nothing unfamiliar about this text. I knew exactly where I stood from the very start, and I will continue to stand for those who want help. In the article I looked at both sides of the fence, but the Alabama side only had one defense the Job Market. Meanwhile, all those who are undocumented are really showing the Government what they are losing if they leave.
ReplyDeleteNatasha
Does the Government of Alabama know how bad their economy is going to be effected by the loss of so many documented and undocumented people?
ReplyDeleteQuestion #1:
ReplyDelete"This needed to be done years ago"....really? I would bet anything that this woman wouldn't scrub a public bathroom floor and toilet on her bare hands and knees for less than minimum wage. Would she take the job since now it's becoming available? I don't think so. That's why they'll have the "mexican" do it as many people refer to the majority of immigrants. I've faced discrimination very harshly, straight in my face, but one thing is for sure, america wouldn't be where it is today if it weren't for the hard working immigrants.
Maricela
Question #2
ReplyDeleteI'm absolutely against this law. I've learned all this from school or the news. One thing is to hear about it and another is to live it. How dare a woman yell at my family saying "go back to your country", how dare this woman put hands on my mother?!? It has been the worst experience of my life. These racist so called "americans" aren't even in their own land to begin with. They took it by force many years ago.

Question #3:
ReplyDeleteI really wasn't unfamiliar to anything. Nothing I haven't heard before but it has definitely been brought up to a another level, I wonder what's next? I feel like if something isn't done, it'll very much compare when Hitler made all the Jews wear the Star of David (the yellow star). America isn't free, it's all politics.

ReplyDeleteQuestion #1
"That's why our jobs went South to Mexico," he said, "They pay them less wages and pocket the money, keep us from having jobs." This is true and I totally agree with it it makes lots of sense. Well most of the jobs in the United States go to the Mexicans since they will do any job offered to them. They dont get paid minimum they get lose then that. So when someone else tries to get a job they are taken and some stores arent even hiring now. In my personal experience, I seen it happen and I seen people get job by luck.
Question #2
I disagree with this story for many reasons. Not every immigrant is moving to Alabama only they are moving all over and the % we got in New Jersey is pretty high. I did agree with what it said about the Mexicans having all the jobs since they get paid less than mininum wage. I also agree with what it said that they are moving to different places and it's true we are getting a lot in the north and south. I become hinder while reading this story by finding out facts about immigrants and what they do. In my personal experience, I seen Mexicans and other people coming from there countries and becoming American citizens.
Kenny Cusido
ReplyDeleteQuestion #3
I did not know that Hispanic parents can fill out a form before they go to jail stating that an American citizen can take their child in their place. I found that pretty interesting and I had no clue they could do that. I thought someone from their family has to take care of them but I was wrong. So what happens when they get out of jail who gets the child? In my personal experience, I seen people go to jail and since no one wants the children they got to live alone supporting their parents house.
Question #4
What jail do Hispanic people go to if they do something over seas and they live in the United States?

ReplyDeleteQuestion #5
Today I will write about Francheska Badia's question. She wrote, "Why does the law need to treat people without papers so unfair? isn't people supposed to be treated equal in this country?" They are treated differently because they were born and raised here but when someone from another country comes here they get everything. I dont know why this is but I know for sure Americans are treated bad compared to immigrants. Immigrants are treated like they are princes or princess and Americans are treated harsh with them no having jobs. I do agree with the part that Francheska said, "Arent people supposed to treated equal in this country." That part is true but everyone living in the united States is not treated equally everyone is characterized or placed in different categories. For example, the hispanics are with the hispanics while the Americans are with the Americans. In my personal experience, I know we are in America the country that has FREEDOM but everyone has a mind of thinking for whatever happens.

ReplyDeleteQuestion #6
Today I will also describe a little bit more what Maricela said. I agree 100% with what she said. There is a big difference from hearing about it and living it. I liked her personal experince but it shows perfectly what the story relates to. In my personal experince, I seen people get yelled at or they got told to go back to your country many times especially in a latino sports event. Today I will just that you can serve from this not only mentally but you can physical, and emotional as well. Either than that everything Maricela wrote is true and I got nothing else to say.
1. The quote the is very significant is where it says "123 students had withdrawn from school in this small town in the northern hills, leaving behind teary and confused classmates" This situatios must be very hard to understand for those little ones. I don't want to imaging how parent tell their kids we have to go because we are not welcome here any more. How much damage the law will do to these children.
ReplyDelete2. I totally disagree with this law.It is very clear that the Alabama people are descriminating hispanish people. This inmigrants come to America to work very hard and do dirtiest jobs for less money.
ReplyDeletequestion 5
ReplyDeleteI agree with Farheen Abbasi question "Why is it that just beacuse someone wasn't born in the United States they can't live freely here like the others? What's the big deal? because undocumented people work very hard to take care of their family.to just take eveyrhting from them is very hard to accept. Some americans don't appreciate what this coutry has to offer them.Unlike the undocumented people appreciate every oppertunity they get in this counrty and take advantage of it.In my opnion everybody should be treated equal in this country, but unffourtanely not all citizens believe in equally.
Francheska Badia
question 6
ReplyDeleteI agree with Farheen Abbasi opinoin based on the article we discussed during class. Many people are unfair with undocumented people in this country.I think everybody should get the same oppertunity. Many ancestors of american families were illegal when they came to the united states. Before anybody talks about immigrants they should put themselves in their shoes and think how they would deal with the situation, where would they go? How would they tell their children that they no longer will live in the united states? This is a very emotional topic and some people just don't have the heart to treat people fair.
Francheska Badia
6. I completely aree with Maricela. I dont think any of the american citizens would do the jobs that some of the immigrants do. Some of these greedy americans would never work as hard, specially when they will be gettig paid less than minimum wage. The undocumented people have been through a lot and they are still going through a lot. They mean absolutely no harm to any of the american citizens. All that they are here in this country for is to have a better life and provide a better life for their loved ones. That's what everyone else is here for rigth? So why cant the undocumented do the same?
ReplyDeleteFarheen Abbasi
question 2
ReplyDeleteI became aware of this article when I read it on Thursday. I don't have time to watch the news or know whats going on but it shock me. I can't believe a law like this became into effect. I only can say its sad because people flee from there country to make a living. There are so many countries that are struggling and many people come here looking for the American dream. They come and work very hard for less than minimum wage just to support their families. To chase them out of state because of there profile and status bothers me.
Mayra
Question 3
ReplyDeleteI truly wasn't aware of the new law and the stories that were in the article. Like I stated in my second question I was in shock and disappointed to hear a law like that came to pass. I understand the economy is doing bad but to take it out on innocent people doesn't make sense to me. Hard working people who were trying to make a living to support there families were chase away because of their profile. Now these jobs are going to be offer to people with a criminal back grounds. I wonder if they will do the job the way these other people did.
Mayra
Question 4
ReplyDeleteI didn't understand this quote, "but outside labor shouldn't come in and just beat them every time on cost and put them out of business.
Mayra
Im going to try to answer Kenny question. Your question states where people go to jail if they did something over seas? If they are caught here in the United States and done a crime here and have a green card they will get deported. These Laws came into effect in the late 1990's. It doesn't matter if you have your green card you will face deportation. The only way the law will protect you here if you become a citizen of the Untied States.
ReplyDeleteNot sure Kenny if this was your question?

Question 1:
ReplyDelete" Two, 5,10 years of living here, and then gone in a matter of days, to Tennessee, Illinois, Oregon, Florida,Arkansas,Mexico- who knows? Anywhere but Alabama"
This quote is not only talking about ten people but thousands living in Albertville, Alabama. This immigration enforcement law is getting out of control with Hispanics immigrants. It took days for the people to evacuate Alabama, thing that is not fair. Many people are leaving Alabama in search of a new home, and a better life. It's not easy to find one in couple of days. I really do feel bad for all of those people and wish they can find a better place. A place where they are all welcome and know they are not in this country for bad but for good purposes. To have a better life and future for themselves and their children.
Elizabeth Vital
Question 2:
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely against the new law in Alabama "Immigration enforcement law". This law is taking away good opportunities for children and hispanics that are illegal in the state of Alabama. Those poor people are in this country for a better life and future. It's not fair to be taken away after years of effort to reach where they were already. Yes it did hinger my evaluating the text in an objective way because no one deserves to be frightened due to the immigrations enforcement law. This is a free country and should give and support everyone even though if people are immigrants.
Elizabeth Vital
Question 3:
ReplyDeleteAll the ideas in this article was so familiar to me. Personally, my family and friends are scared of this law to pass to other states specially here at New Jersey. I understand their fear because is not easy to hide from the immigration and be deported back to there country. it's hard for them to find a job that pays the right salary they deserve for there hard work, go to college, visit their family members back in there country, and etc. All immigrants in this country work twice as hard or much more then the American citizens, to have a better future and get what they want with their own sweat everyday.
Elizabeth Vital
Question 4:
ReplyDeleteDo you think this situation will help other state Governors in the United States of America open their eyes and realize, how just a small town like in Albertville,Alabama economy got worst now without the hispanic immigrants then before? To see the ironic part where the Alabama Governor purpose was to help the citizens and the economy and the consequence was that he just made it worst.
Elizabeth Vital
Question 5:
ReplyDeleteNatasha question: Does the Government of Alabama know how bad their economy is going to be effected by the loss of so many documented and undocumented people?
My answer for Natasha question is, no the Government of Alabama doesn't know how bad their economy is been effected by the loss of so many immigrants. The government at first was just looking at his purposes to deliver jobs to citizens, protect taxpayers, and make the economy better. But the results didn't come out how he expected. american citizens refuse to work at farms to growing crops. To be all day under the sun and sweating like immigrants does. Immigrant people did pay taxes by money been taken away in there pay checks. The economy got worst by thousands of people leaving Alabama. Having no one to buy stuff, rent or buy houses, children going to school, business closing down, and more. The Alabama governor just did what American citizens requested but never thought it would effect in many ways.
Elizabeth Vital
Question 6:
ReplyDeleteMaricela I totally agree with your response to question number one. I understand you because i know people who have been thru similar situations as you did. Everyday those people work hard and get paid less then it should be pay. The job is to clean apartments in rich people areas. Most of them Americans some of them are nice and understands it a tough job but others are so greedy and ignorant that think its easy to do. The ones that knows the job is hard appreciated them and pay them more how it should be for there good job. But the other ignorant think they are better because they have papers and thinks they can treat them like slaves or worst. But like you say those ignorant American citizens won't take the job of cleaning bathrooms not even there own home bathrooms and yet they hired "mexicans" to do the job. They think all immigrants are Mexicans which is not true. Instead of them appreciating them they still want all immigrants to leave this country. If all of us leave who will do there cleaning? Themselves? I don't think so.
Elizabeth Vital
Question #1
ReplyDelete"Two,5,10 years living days"g here and then gone in a matter of days."These people worked so many years for this country. Doing the jobs that no other person would do and for minimum wage. They came to the U.S looking for a better future and when they already have made a life here. Then they have to leave. Living behind the things for which they worked so hard for. It is so unfair.
I strongly disagree with this law. It is so unfair that undocumented people have to leave behind all their things for which they worked all their life for. They just want a better life like everybody else. With this law both parts lose the employer and the employee. Most of the people that are illegally here they have to support their families in their country and now how will they do that.
ReplyDeleteQuestion 3
ReplyDeleteThis article was familiar to me because I always watch the news and some members of my family aren't legally here so they fear that they will be sent back at any time. Also I have friends that don't have papers and they don't have the opportunity to go to college and they can't work at a job that pays well.
Who will do the jobs that the undocumented people did?
ReplyDeleteQuestion 5
ReplyDeleteNo, the government doesn't know but when they notice it is going to be too late. They will already have lost a lot of money. Many business will close and many other place where the low wage workers shop will close too.
I agree with Maricela America wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the hard working immigrants. They are the ones that do the jobs that nobody else will do and for minimum wage. They don't complain and just work through harsh conditions.
ReplyDelete2)I won't consider being biases for or against the subject, I can understand why people feel strongly about immigrants and the jobs people believe they take away from other. But the fact are articles only focus on the negative aspect of immigrants but not the positve contribution they made. I know there are some bad apples mix the rest of immingrants community, just need to separate them.
ReplyDelete1. " This needed to be done years ago" this quote standed out more because it's true that unemployment has been pretty bad recently , and lately the rise of jobs is slowly going up and job fairs should be done more often.
ReplyDelete2. I'm against the idea of having random searches for your information towards law enforcement. It was a smart idea for hispanic people to flee from where they live and move on to maybe to a saver place.
3. " that's why our jobs went south to Mexico" , they are saying that jobs went towards but didn't the hispanics also flee to the north for a better chance for a job?
4. How many states passed the law of law enforcement having to ask for information?
5. They treat hispanics who aren't legal in the United States because maybe they see us as threat of having to take over pretty much every single job out there they can find. But then again some of these people wouldn't even bother to work for it and yet have to put the blame for hispanics having to " work hard " .
6. In all seriousness yet again nobody has the right to judge the color of someone skin or legal status. Everyone that has come to the Unites States has come for one thing only , for a better chance. They want to achieve better than what they normally had.

Question 2
ReplyDeleteI am completely against the immigration law that Alabama has passed.Immigrants are hard workers who want to support their families. They are not hurting nobody why do people have to hate on them? They work for minimum wage and don't do anything about it. citizens say that they take away their jobs but will they do the job that undocumented people do and work through harsh conditions. Hurting their hands and getting dirty.

Question 3
ReplyDeleteI was familiar with all the ideas in this article. I understand their fear of being sent back to their homeland. They are hard workers who want to acquire a better life just like everybody else. What is wrong with that . Why do citizens discriminate them, will they do the jobs that they did and will they be able to work through harsh conditions.Hurting their hands and not complain. Undocumented people aren't any different from any other human being.

5)Sulma wrote the quetion "Who will do the jobs that the undocumented people did?" Well it will be the American Citizens that were born here.
